MMXXIV

Dexter B&rrett
A working catalog of
interfaces & the spaces
between them.
I'm a product designer with a love for systems thinking and narrative craft. I believe great design doesn't announce itself — it simply makes sense. My work lives at the intersection of rigorous research, elegant interaction, and thoughtful visual language.
The four projects in this edition all share a quiet ambition: to make life a little more accessible, a little more efficient, and a little less loud. A ring that watches the market so you don't have to. A glove that teaches your hands to cook. A pair of glasses that lets a blind person walk through New York. And a printed financial journal — a speculative rebrand of a public crypto exchange that dares to look like an actual paper.
The pages that follow list the work first as a numbered index, then as plates — full case studies in their own right — followed by a short essay on how I work, a colophon, and a way to reach me. Please, take your time.
A designer with range,
not a specialist stuck in the middle.
Research through shipping. Screens through silicone.
The work moves across surfaces because the problems do.
-
I.
Research
Field interviews, journey maps, competitive teardowns, and the third-coffee insight the brief never mentions.
-
II.
Interaction
Flows, states, prototypes, motion. The choreography between a person and the thing they're holding.
-
III.
Interface
Type, grids, systems, components. Screens and sites that hold up under repeated use.
-
IV.
Physical
Wearables, haptics, industrial form. A ring for the market, a glove for a knife, glasses for a blind commute.
-
V.
Shipping
Front-end code, PWAs, quiet deploys. Solo projects taken from sketch to MVP without a handoff meeting.
Featured Plates
Four works · 2024 — 2026Haptic Market — a quieter way to trade
A smart ring paired with AI agents that watch the market for you — pulsing only when a trade is genuinely worth your attention. A response to financial doomscrolling.
MISE — an invisible chef, on hand
Smart glasses paired with a haptic glove that teach cooking the way a chef would — by guiding your hand. The embodied skills no book or video can transmit.
Stride — walking, by sound
AR smart glasses that help blind people safely navigate dense city environments. Spatial audio, haptic guidance, and a tiny patient voice that knows the way.
Gemini — the oldest new money
A speculative rebrand of a publicly-traded crypto exchange, staged as a printed financial journal. A refusal of the crypto gradient. A campaign titled Made Public.
How I work.
Discover¹
Research, stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, and user empathy mapping to understand the problem space. The thing the project is for rarely shows up in the brief; it shows up around the third coffee.
Define²
Synthesize insights, define personas, map journeys, and establish clear design principles and success metrics. I treat principles as guardrails, not garnish — they have to make decisions easier later.
Design³
Ideate solutions, create wireframes and prototypes, establish a visual language, and iterate based on feedback. I draw screens before I draw systems, and systems before I draw screens.
Deliver⁴
Handoff to development, create documentation, conduct usability testing, and refine based on real-world usage. The artifact of design is not a mockup; it is a shipped behaviour.
